Callum Hüseyin

Conductor

Callum is a sought after conductor for operas, symphonic works and choral work. As well as being the music director of Tealeaf Opera Productions, he is the music director of the Cruachan Court Orchestra, the Broughton Choral Society, the Dalkeith Singers and Take Note Edinburgh. Callum is also a composer and orchestrator, having written for forces as diverse as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Edinburgh Concert Band.

Sarah has worked in the arts for many years in arts admin and production roles at the English National Opera, the ICA, Sound Art research centre CRiSAP, the Tate Modern, The Old Vic Tunnels and The Barbican. She went on to produce and direct theatre and art exhibitons. Sarah currently runs an arts programme for homeless hostel residents based a Arlington House in Camden.

Sarah is a singer and cellist. She plays in numerous high standard amateur orchestras including section leading, taken part in shows and functions on a pro bases. She sings with the acclaimed 'The Fourth Choir' and sung solo in operas, choirs, concerts and for bands. Chris is a Baritone from East London who is now based between London and Lancashire, studying with William Allenby.

Chris is an avid and accomplished Opera and Choral singer, having sung in such prestigious venues as the Royal Festival Hall (London), St Peter's Basilica (Vatican) as well as a number of cathedrals around the world.

Highlights of opera roles include Mr Peachum in Beggar's Opera (John Gaye), Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro (Mozart), Samuel in Pirates of Penzance (Gilbert and Sullivan), Peter in Hansel und Gretel (Humperdinck), Sarastro in Die Zauberflote (Mozart), Guglielmo in Cosi fan Tutte (Mozart), Dr Dulcamara in L'elisir d'Amore (Donizetti), Banco in Macbeth (Verdi) and Lindorf/Dapertutto in Tales of Hoffmann (Offenbach).

Upcoming opera roles include Herr Reich (Merry Wives of Windsor), Guglielmo (Cosi fan Tutti) and Leporello (Don Giovanni). Chris is also due to appear as a soloist with Preston Opera for their Gala in November.

As well as being a singer, Chris is also an accomplished Double Bass Player, having held the position of 2nd seat in the Romanian National Radio Orchestra for the 2014 season as well as being a very in demand freelancer in London both before and after the tenure in Romania. Next Orchestral engagements see Chris join forces with Cruachan Court Orchestra.

Anthony Colasanto

Courageous Prince - tasked with rescuing Pamina.

Anthony Colasanto is in his final year of his masters at Trinity Laban Conservatoire training with Neil Baker and Panaretos Kyriatzidis. He recently performed at Longborough Opera Festival as part of the chorus in Wagner’s Götterdämmerung and in Puccini’s La Bohème with the Philharmonia Chorus in Lille. Recent engagements as tenor soloist include Verdi’s Requiem, Lucas in Haydn’s The Seasons and Balthazar Zorn in Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. He has been awarded the Morag Vocal Scholarship.

Pamina

Lana Quaid

Princess - daughter of the Queen of the Night

Lana is a lyric soprano from North London and can be found performing regularly in opera, concerts, oratorio, and more.

Her most recent operatic roles include Adina (L'elisir d'amore), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), and Adele (Die Fledermaus). She also thoroughly enjoyed debuting the role of 'Cat' in the online mini pandemic opera 'Dog & Cat' by Paul Ayres.


Lana studies with Anna Sideris-Dupuy and Christine Cairns. She is a founding member of Tealeaf Opera Productions and looks forward to bringing many more productions to audiences across the UK and further afield.

Sworn Enemy of Sarastro, Mother to Pamina

Coloratura soprano Joanne Whalley was a competition winner at Opera Festival Scotland and recently sang the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor with her rendition of the mad scene praised as "truly chilling".

She premiered Jacob Bride’s Songs to Aphrodite and was soprano soloist for Stonehaven Chorus' performance of a new arrangement of Holst's First Choral Symphony. Other roles include Giannetta (L’elisir d’Amore), Barbarina (Marriage of Figaro), Taumann (Hänsel und Gretel), Cathleen (Riders to the Sea, cover), Anne (Merry Wives of Windsor).She studies with mezzo soprano Chloe Latchmore and sopranoGillian Ramm. Forthcoming engagements include soprano soloist in Haydn:  Nelson Mass, Mozart: Missa Brevis in F and Norina in Donizetti: Don Pasquale.

Studied with Otakar Kraus and currently with Jeremy White. Opera roles include Coppelius, Sarastro, Balthazzar, Inspector Budd, and Il Commendatore together with Lieder and English song recitals.

Monostatos

Peder Holtermann

Head of the Slaves of the Cult, enamoured of Pamina.

Peder started singing in The Norwegian Broadcasting Boys´ Choir. After a law degree, he studied musicology and then singing at the RCM. He has performed in concert with the Norwegian Baroque Soloists and as a soloist all over Europe, in works such as Bach (St John Passion) and Britten (Serenade). Opera roles include Loge in Das Rheingold in Berlin, Don Basilio and Don Curzio in Le nozze di Figaro, The Mayor in Albert Herring and El Remendado in Carmenfor for St. Paul's Opera. Upcoming performances include Mime (Das Rheingold) at Pigotts and Tchaplitsky in Queen of Spades with Midsummer Opera.

Stephanie Wong

Lady in Waiting to the Queen of the Night.

Stephanie is a lyric soprano and has over the past year performed as Barbarina in Marriage of Figaro, Hekate, in Macbeth and will be performing this year as Pamina, Magic Flute for York Opera. Stephanie performs across Yorkshire and London with Trinity Laban, Morley College, and was in the chorus of Der Wald by Ethel Smyth with The Opera Makers.

2nd Lady

Alicia Hill

Lady in Waiting to the Queen of the Night.

Alicia completed her master’s at the Royal College of Music in 2022, where she performed the role of Anne Truelove in Stravinsky’s ‘The Rake’s Progress’ and Rosalinde in ‘Die Fledermaus’ for the Royal College of Music opera scenes. Whilst at College, she sang Fiordiligi in an excerpt of ‘Cosi fan Tutte’ with full orchestra in a showcase concert. Alicia has also done concert work with various choral societies and was a Josephine Baker Trust scholar at the Royal College of Music. Alicia graduated with a First-class degree in Music and Philosophy at the University of Nottingham in 2018. Alicia made her opera debut in 2022 as Mimi in City of Manchester Opera’s production of ‘La Boheme.’ Studying under Amanda Roocroft, she sang Rosalinde in Preston Opera's semi-staged performance of ‘Die Fledermaus.’ Last year she sang the role of Tatyana in Preston Opera’s production of ‘Eugene Onegin, and earlier this year
sang the role of Antonia in their production of 'Tales of Hoffman.'

Mezzo soprano/ contralto , Sian Coombs displays her versatility in a range of comic and dramatic roles. Most recently she charmed audiences with her sparkling characterisation of Elizabeth the first in Merrie England by Edward German for Brent Opera .

Chief of the Priests of the Cult, Sarastro's Right-hand man.

Baritone AleksiKoponen trained in Helsinki and London. His most recent roles include Tosca's Scarpia, the title role of Verdi’sMacbeth,Salome'sJochanaan,Orest fromElektra, Father fromHänsel und Gretel,Alberich,Donner and Gunther from Wagner'sDer Ring des Nibelungen,andIbn-Hakia fromIolanta. He frequently sings as a soloist in the major oratorio repertoire, and works closely with several collaborative pianists, focusing mainly on Russian and German lieder.He particularly champions new music and has commissioned and given premieres of pieces by several living composers.

Alex Duarte

An important functionary in the temple of the cult.

Alex Duarte, a light tenor, began his vocal journey at eleven under David Kirby-Ashmore and later studied under Peter Bronder and Joy Mammen. He holds a BA in Education Studies and is pursuing an MSc in Applied Behaviour Analysis. Alex has performed as Tamino in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and as Vašek in Janáček's The Bartered Bride. He recently left his job to focus on his music career, having funded his training independently from very early on.

Second Armoured Man

Joaquin Caro-Astorga

An important functionary in the temple of the cult

Joaquin Caro-Astorga discovered a passion for opera at the age of 11, when encouraged by his mother to join a children's choir, he performed in Carmen and La Boheme at the Cervantes Theatre in Malaga, Spain. During his university studies, he joined the Orfeon Universitario Choir at Malaga University, winning a national first award. For the next 12 years, Joaquin Caro-Astorga embraced professional singing, joining the Malaga Opera Choir and Teatro Lirico Andaluz, a company of zarzuela – Spanish opera. He performed in more than 30 operas and zarzuelas all around the South of Spain, playing roles like the Inspector in ´La Verbena de la Paloma´. After his PhD in Molecular Biology, he relocated to London to pursue his research career in genetic engineering and joined Tea Leaf Opera, to sing the role of Sicario and Doctor in Macbeth. Today, he is in the role of an Armored Man and the choir.

Rosalind O'Dowd

First Genie

One of three wise spirits who guide Tamino on his quest.

Rosalind gained her MMus from Trinity Laban and has been a freelance opera singer ever since. She has performed a wide variety of roles, including a few gender-bending ones such as Alfredo in La Traviata. She had the most fun playing the dreadful Lady Billows in Britten’s Albert Herring for St Paul’s Opera in 2022, and will be taking on Pamina for Porcupine Productions later in October. Magic Flute productions are just like buses….one comes along and then…..!

Rania Bailey

Second Genie

One of three wise spirits who guide Tamino on his quest.

Rania has recently returned to the Opera world after a long hiatus. She studied music at The University of Chichester and is a session musician working in a variety of roles. Primarily a singer, but is also hired for her Saxophone and Flute skills. She is an avid lover of music, performing in a variety of styles from classical, jazz, rock, metal and all else in between! She has a very quick ear for music, even stepping in at the last minute to fill in the role of Marcellina in The Marriage of Figaro with under 12 hours' notice!

Carolyn Burnley

Third Genie

One of three wise spirits who guide Tamino on his quest.

Carolyn first appeared with Tealeaf Opera in their production of Verdi’s “Macbeth” earlier this
year. She has sung with Rose Opera Chorus in their recent production of Puccini’s “Tosca”, also
Mozart’s “Idomeneo” and “Der fliegende Hollaender” by Wagner. She has performed with
Richmond Opera playing various roles including the Second Witch in Purcell’s “Dido and
Aeneas”. From time to time she gives recitals – most recently singing with friends at St.
George’s, Beckenham.
Carolyn has studied singing privately, at Morley College and CityLit. She originally studied violin
and classical guitar as a junior scholarship student at Trinity College of Music

André Bertoncini is a Brazilian collaborative pianist specialising in Opera and Chamber Music. He graduated with Distinction from a Master of Arts in Piano Accompaniment at The Royal Academy of Music, under Professor Michael Dussek and James Baillieu. Recently, he made his debut at Wigmore Hall playing for the Academy Song Circle: Beginnings. Since 2023, André has been an assistant repetiteur for the Morley Opera School and has worked as repetiteur for Die Zauberflöte (Mozart) at 2024 Nevill Holt festival. André holds a Bachelor degree from UNESPAR/EMBAP (BR), in the class of the Russian Professor Olga Kiun, with a scholarship from the Dieuwertje Meijer Project.
